A solid sterling silver limpet shell sand cast by hand in my studio. I used a natural shell found on the beach in Whitby and created a mould to cast the fragile shell into a more robust piece that can be worn on every adventure. No two are ever the same due to the handmade nature, just like no two shells are ever the same in the ocean.
It has long been a dream of mine to capture these organic finds in silver form, exalting their beauty from beachcombing trinkets to timeless adornments.
The humble limpet, a conical shell that clings to the shoreline rocks. I can recall the feeling of their pointed tops pressing into the palm of my hand as I would scramble over the rock armoury as a child. They would embellish rock pools with their intricate details and anchor themselves securely against the crashing waves.
The limpet can can teach us strength and perseverance, holding tight to our dreams and ambitions. Perhaps even help guide us to a safe place, a grounded place within ourselves where we can learn to let the waves of life wash over us.
